The desert lime – an elusive little fruit that has captured the attention of many. Known for its tangy, sour taste and unique aroma, it’s no wonder why people are so curious about this exotic delicacy.
But with all great things comes a catch – how long does it take to grow?
Getting to Know the Desert Lime
Before diving into the growing process of this citrus gem, let’s get acquainted with what exactly a desert lime is.
Native to arid regions of Australia, the desert lime belongs to the family Rutaceae and is scientifically known as Citrus glauca. This small tree produces round green fruits that turn yellow when ripe and can be harvested from April through August.
Factors That Affect Growth
So now back to our original question – how long does it take for these beauties to grow?
Unfortunately, there isn’t one straightforward answer as there are various factors that affect growth. Some of these include soil quality, irrigation methods, weather patterns and pests.
However, on average you can expect a mature tree (around 3-4 years old) to produce up to 25kg of fruit per harvest season.
Patience Is Key
Like most things in life worth having though patience is key here too! From seedling stage through maturity takes several years so if you were hoping for quick results unfortunately this may not be possible!
Most trees won’t even start producing fruit until around three years old but once they do they’ll keep going strong for up to two decades if cared for properly!
